Dear Nashuva Community:
WE NEED YOUR HELP COLLECTING SUPPLIES!
Amidst a global pandemic and a turnover of national power fraught with lack of forbearance, it can be difficult to see the light.
Safe Place for Youth is the rare beacon of hope, and we are coordinating a drive (for the fifth year in a row!) to help SPY collect the items they need to serve their members.
Safe Place for Youth (SPY) is a nonprofit organization located on Lincoln Blvd. in Venice that strives to inspire change in young people’s lives by engaging, building trust, and providing care and support. Youth homelessness is a sobering problem — according to the Los Angeles Housing Authority’s 2015 Homeless Youth Count report, there are approximately 6,150 homeless youth on the streets any given night in LA County, and it is only getting worse.
Now is an especially difficult time for the homeless, who face seemingly taunting “stay at home” orders, exposure to the virus, and (let’s not forget) poor air quality from the record-breaking West Coast Fires that raged through August, September, and even October.
Please join Nashuva in collecting the following items for SPY by December 18th: Solar chargers (quantity goal: 100) Beanies/scarves/gloves/socks (not red; as many as possible; no amazon link Large backpacks (quantity goal: 100) Headphones (quantity goal: 100 pairs) Skateboards (other brands of skateboards are fine; quantity goal:100) Important notes: Due to gang activity in Venice, SPY is not accepting items that are RED in color |
Right after Thanksgiving, when we count our blessings, and during the festival of lights, when we celebrate miracles in times of need, let’s come together to make an impact on the lives of struggling teens and young adults in our very own city.
Thanks and Happy Hanukkah,
Renata Robins and Morgan Jarow
