Social Action – Sukkot Event 2019

Sukkot Brunch Celebration with Jewish War Veterans at the Levy-Eshman Home

Sunday, October 20, 2019
10:00 am to 12:00 pm

Shake the Lulav & Etrog in Rabbi Naomi’s Sukkah, while we celebrate our volunteers and learn about the Jewish War Veterans and their 73rd annual A Gift for a Yank program.

The holiday of Sukkot teaches us to move out of our comfort zones to experience the beauty and fragility of life. By eating under a shelter outdoors for a week, we can become more attuned to those that are in need. In the spirit of the holiday, we’ll be collecting toothpaste, puzzle books (like sudoku and crossword), playing cards, to be distributed to hospitalized and homeless veterans.

Nashuva’s Sukkot event is open to our entire community and is not to be missed!

We are supporting the Jewish War Veterans this year with our collection drive for Sukkot. The JWV assists hospitalized veterans with morale-building visits to VA hospitals delivering social interaction (Bingo and card games) and toiletries. The California JWV’s annual A Gift for a Yank program was founded in 1946 in partnership with the late great entertainer, Eddie Cantor. This annual program includes Christmas Day activities delivering respect to the patients and infirm veteran residents around the Los Angeles VA hospital campus.

Please join us under the Sukkah at the home of Rabbi Naomi Levy and Rob Eshman for a volunteer appreciation brunch on Sunday, October 20, 2019.

If you have ever volunteered in any capacity, or feel you might want to in the future, or if you simply want to join us, just come!

Everybody is welcome.
